April’s Currently

April 2, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

Happy April everyone! To kick off this month I am linking up with the Fabulous Farley from Oh’ Boy 4th Grade… Here goes:
Listening: Simon and Garfunkel knew what they were doing by titling a song “Sound of Silence”, it is BLISSFUL after a busy week of school and Easter.  I am soaking up the quiet and loving it… for now!
Loving: That I am on SPRING BREAK! It felt like it was never going to come, and it is finally here! I have no real plans other than relaxing, reading, TpT’ing, Blogging and spending some QT with my family and friends. Oh, and in honor of Spring Break I have a sale on my TpT store going on NOW until Thursday! Check it out- 20% off everything!
Thinking: maybe I should change this category to STRESSING… our State Test is in 3 weeks after break…. I feel like there is still A LOT that I want to cover…. we have covered so much, but there are still a few things that need to get done… I think everyone feels this way… who is ever completely ready?
Wanting: My husband is on a landscaping kick and he has been working really hard in his free time on ripping out the plants from the previous owner and weeds that have overtaken the yard.  He even spent last Saturday jack hammering concrete out of the back yard so we can have a garden.  BUT, ripping out is the cheap part…landscaping is the expensive part… I am hoping my TpT sales can help landscape the backyard and my hubs is even looking into some SAT tutoring as a side job for over summer. We shall see.
This is a picture, taken by Apples and ABCs. Michelle and I were having a blogging date and we looked out the window and saw my husband cutting down a tree. We were crying because of laughing so hard at him figure out how to cut it down and watching him shimmy up the tree with a little hand saw.
Needing: Well, being almost 30 weeks pregnant makes shopping NOT fun!  I am having 2 baby showers coming up and I want a cute dress (or two) to wear…. This should be a challenge!
Me and Eli Donovan at 28 weeks!

Advice: We have all heard it, “sharing is caring”, and this cliche is true. Whether it be sharing a resource you created with a coworker or blogging friend, or giving an unexpected gift to a well deserved friend, letting people know you care is important.  I have become a better teacher because of those mentors who have shared with me knowledge and resources and I have become a better parent, wife and friend by taking time to share with those around me who are in need. I encourage you to share some goodwill with a coworker, friend or family member this week. It will make your day and bless theirs!

That’s all for this month… I am excited to see what you all have shared on your April Currentlys.
Be sure to check out my sale:

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm glad I stopped over and was able to see the tree pictures…definitely good for a giggle! Hopefully you'll be able to get the landscaping done sooner rather than later. I need to redo my garden area and am not looking forward to find out how much it might cost!

While the phrase, ā€œOpen schoolsā€ bothers me be While the phrase, ā€œOpen schoolsā€ bothers me because it minimizes the HUGE lengths that teachers have gone through this past year. Where we, in a split moment, closed our classrooms and said goodbye to our students not knowing how this was going to play out. No matter whether we are teaching virtually, hybrid or even in a social distanced format...school has never been closed. Teachers went from being called heroes šŸ¦øā€ā™€ļø a year ago to being strongly criticized and undervalued. I am so proud and inspired by all of my teacher friends who have had to reinvent the wheel this year. I am so relieved that this is the first step back to the classroom setting where the students will continue to learn, flourish and be like ā€œthe good ole daysā€. Dose one done āœ…. One step closer to being back in the classroom, IRL!
Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing šŸ’•Va Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing šŸ’•Valentine’s to my students. I am writing different figurative language notes on each postcard. Then we are going to share them on GoogleMeets during our morning meeting and vote which figurative language is on each student’s post card! You can take the teacher out of the classroom but they will still find ways to engage; no matter the distance! This year I have to mail these to my students ((because of distance learning)) but who doesn’t love some good ole snail mail 🐌 šŸ’Œ.
This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not th This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not the point...

I love being a teacher. I am aways challenged and get to be creative (especially these past 11 months). I feel at home at my school, and I’ve missed it so much since working at home. My district is in a zip code that is highly impacted with COVID-19, and we have felt the effects tremendously. Everyday, I am amazed by how resilient my students have been since their little world’s šŸŒ changed on March 13th, 2020. It’s been one, wild ride, reinventing teaching, trying to stay motivated, trying to keep them engaged while feeling supported and seen. Yet, I’m hopeful this chapter soon will end. Amidst all of the unexpected and difficult things that have happened this last year... there’s still a lot of good out there. Look at this šŸ’› glimmer of hope and goodness. My uncle and Father in Law just made a class set of desks for my students (plus 30 more for other kids at my school). They used their stimulus money to give back to my school community. This desk will be their own special spot, and memory of the time we learned from home. I’m feeling really grateful and I can’t wait to see past the masks and imagine the smiles that my students will have when they pick these new family heirlooms up on Friday!
Sometimes it is all about the little goals you mak Sometimes it is all about the little goals you make for 2021. Ones like drinking more water and making sure to stand while distance teaching. I miss the days of walking around the classroom, running down the the stairs to grab my class after recess and hopping into a coworkers classroom at lunch.
Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a lon Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a longer winter break but as soon as the school day started, it was game on. I was so excited to see my students online, ready to learn. I am constantly in awe of how resilient they are and how even though we have yet to be together in person, we have created such a supportive and close community. We giggle, we work, we do the best we can and feel good about it together.
