Brag Tags for Big Kids

September 1, 2014 By fancyfreein4th

This summer I was reflecting on my teaching practices and I set some professional goals.  One of them was to highlight the little things that my students do well on.  It is so easy to get wrapped up in everything that occurs in a school day, that I want to make sure to positively reinforce my kiddos frequently. So, I searched Pinterest and I found a lot of amazing Brag Tags on there. Many seemed geared towards the primary grades so I decided to make my own Brag Tags but for Big Kids!!!

If you don’t know what Brag Tags are…

Brag Tags are like little, Dog Tag shaped trophies that celebrate student accomplishments!

They positively reinforce students in a tangible and powerful way. Brag Tags will spice up your classroom behavior management system by motivating your students to work hard towards their behavior and academic goals. They are so simple to incorporate into any behavior management system. I found 100 ball necklaces on Amazon Prime for $25.

Each student will get a necklace with a tag on it that has their name.  They can wear the necklace at school or leave it on our Brag Tag Bulletin Board.

As they meet their academic and behavior goals or milestones they will earn tags to add to their necklace. I just know that my students will love collecting them all year long because kids love affirmation, positive attention and encouragement.

Brag Tags Included in this Set:

These are specific to my classroom, so if there is a Brag Tag that you’d like to me make for you, I can customize tags for you!

Simply print, laminate and cut…

My son, Eli helped me by taking a few of the Brag Tags hostage.

I am excited to try this out with my new set of kiddos that I will meet TOMORROW!!!! AHH!

As a Back to School treat, these are on sale now for the 1st week of school at my TpT store….

AND one lucky winner will get this pack for free.  You have to be a follower of my Instagram account (Fancyfreein4th) to get this because I posted a video this weekend showing off my new room.  So check out my Instagram, and leave the answer here along with your email and I will send these Brag Tags for Big Kids your way!

I love the idea of using brag tags and hope to use them in my classroom after winter break. I have a question though, what program did you use to create them?

While the phrase, “Open schools” bothers me be While the phrase, “Open schools” bothers me because it minimizes the HUGE lengths that teachers have gone through this past year. Where we, in a split moment, closed our classrooms and said goodbye to our students not knowing how this was going to play out. No matter whether we are teaching virtually, hybrid or even in a social distanced format...school has never been closed. Teachers went from being called heroes 🦸‍♀️ a year ago to being strongly criticized and undervalued. I am so proud and inspired by all of my teacher friends who have had to reinvent the wheel this year. I am so relieved that this is the first step back to the classroom setting where the students will continue to learn, flourish and be like “the good ole days”. Dose one done ✅. One step closer to being back in the classroom, IRL!
Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Va Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Valentine’s to my students. I am writing different figurative language notes on each postcard. Then we are going to share them on GoogleMeets during our morning meeting and vote which figurative language is on each student’s post card! You can take the teacher out of the classroom but they will still find ways to engage; no matter the distance! This year I have to mail these to my students ((because of distance learning)) but who doesn’t love some good ole snail mail 🐌 💌.

I love being a teacher. I am aways challenged and get to be creative (especially these past 11 months). I feel at home at my school, and I’ve missed it so much since working at home. My district is in a zip code that is highly impacted with COVID-19, and we have felt the effects tremendously. Everyday, I am amazed by how resilient my students have been since their little world’s 🌍 changed on March 13th, 2020. It’s been one, wild ride, reinventing teaching, trying to stay motivated, trying to keep them engaged while feeling supported and seen. Yet, I’m hopeful this chapter soon will end. Amidst all of the unexpected and difficult things that have happened this last year... there’s still a lot of good out there. Look at this 💛 glimmer of hope and goodness. My uncle and Father in Law just made a class set of desks for my students (plus 30 more for other kids at my school). They used their stimulus money to give back to my school community. This desk will be their own special spot, and memory of the time we learned from home. I’m feeling really grateful and I can’t wait to see past the masks and imagine the smiles that my students will have when they pick these new family heirlooms up on Friday!
Sometimes it is all about the little goals you mak Sometimes it is all about the little goals you make for 2021. Ones like drinking more water and making sure to stand while distance teaching. I miss the days of walking around the classroom, running down the the stairs to grab my class after recess and hopping into a coworkers classroom at lunch.
Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a lon Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a longer winter break but as soon as the school day started, it was game on. I was so excited to see my students online, ready to learn. I am constantly in awe of how resilient they are and how even though we have yet to be together in person, we have created such a supportive and close community. We giggle, we work, we do the best we can and feel good about it together.
