February Currently

February 2, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

Welcome February, one of my favorite months! Today Tonight, I am linking up with Farley from Oh’ Boy 4th Grade and her monthly Currently Linky!

Let me break it down:
Listening: I love listening to books during my work commute and I just started Matched, by Ally Condie.  Here is the Goodreads summary if you haven’t heard about this Young Adult series.  Basically, it’s a nonviolent Hunger Games-esque love story.  I started the book yesterday and am almost finished with it! I bet I will be done with the series by next week!
Loving:  Tomorrow I have a blogging date with Michelle from Apples and ABCs! I am sooo excited to have some time with Michelle to catch up on life, giggle and create!
Thinking: Our 4th grade state writing test is coming up in the beginning of March and I am overwhelmed with thinking about how to prepare my students for it without burning them out over the next month.  Since we do not know which genre the writing prompt will be, my 2 coworkers and I decided to do a writing rotation to try to keep the students engaged and to shake things up. For the next 3 weeks we will be taking turns teaching each class a different genre. I will be focusing on teaching all 3 classes how to tackle a Response to Literature writing prompt while my coworkers will teach/review narrative and summary writing.
Wanting: Someone to organize my files! I am not a paper-keeper. I prefer to have all of my copies on a digital file, but being new to this school and collaborating with my amazing team, I have collected a lot of papers for various activities and lessons.  I have not organized these and am kicking myself about the growing pile in my file cabinet and the many lost papers that have disappeared already. I resolve that next year I will be better at this, and I already warned my grade level team that I will need backup copies next year.

Needing: A pedicure, plain and simple.  With this warm weather coming to SoCal my toes are not ready for sandals!
Pet Peeves: REPEATING myself. I will say something or be giving directions and there are always those 2 or 3 students who ask a question, RIGHT after I just finished talking about it !!!  It kills me.
I can’t wait to catch up on all of your Currently’s! Remember, tomorrow is when my Super Bowl Sale starts…
Stalk up on some of my goodies here at my Teachers Pay Teachers store!

JEALOUS of your warm weather! It's FREEZING in Illinois! I refuse to repeat myself anymore. They have to ask someone else. I don't even repeat on Spelling Tests! They MUST listen the first time.

Eek! Good luck with your state testing! I'm lucky we don't have any big assessments or tests in first grade where I teach. 🙂 Found you through the Currently. Gotta love Farley.

Our 4th grade writing test is march 18th. Our test consists of two passages that students have to read and then choose one to write their opinion about the topic using examples from the text. Last year I held our first ever camp write along. It was really a great way to prepare students.

I just read the part of not knowing what genre the students will have to write for the test. Yikes! We always have two prompts. Students write a narrative one day and expository of a personal experience the other. We test in April.

I found you through Farley's currently linky! I like that you use your commute to and from work to listen to books. What a great idea! I have a long commute too but I notice half the time I drive in silence on my way home, maybe it's my way of "letting go" of my work load.

Very jealous of your weather and break – in Ontario we get one long weekend – that's it! Happy I found your blog through the Currently linky.

Thanks for visiting me! I thought I would return the favor.

I hear ya on the state writing test. Ours is April 2 & 3. Expository writing is killing me and my kids right now.

I have been looking for a file all week. I bet it is in the box of papers that need to be filed. I am working on scanning my files. However, I've been teaching 20 years and there are a lot.

    Good luck on your writing!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm glad to have found yours as well. I too need someone to organize my files. If there was teacher workday soon I'd do it myself, but right now there is just not enough time!
