May Currently!

May 4, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

Can you believe it is May already? Today I am linking up with Farley from Oh’Boy 4th Grade and her awesome, monthly linky.

Let’s break it down:
LISTENING: Since I get my daughter ready Monday- Friday, my husband has weekend duty which means I get to sleep in (until 7:30-gasp-). I can no longer sleep in, I think I lost that ability when I became a mama, and it’s especially hard right now because I am 8.5 months preggers, so I am up and down all night.  This morning, while I was “sleeping in” I was listening to my husband and daughter chit chat and it melted my heart!
LOVING: Now don’t get me wrong, I love, love, LOVE my job…but I am soooo ready for this school year to be over, again probably a side effect of being 8.5 months pregnant!  Only 20 more days!
THINKING/WANTING: Summer is going to be busy because we will be turning from a family of 3 to a family of 4. I am lucky that my husband is a teacher too, so I will have him with me navigating how to have a newborn and a 2 year old…. BUT my husband got a tutoring job this summer that will take him out of the house 4 hours a day M-F.  I am lucky my in-laws live close by!  I am so excited to meet my little boy. I can’t imagine the amount of love I will feel when I have him in my arms and I can’t wait for my little girl to be a big sister.
NEEDING: I am soooo tired when I get home from work that I have been neglecting my blog. I feel horribly about it and I know that I need to get back in the rhythm of it again. I have sooo many photos on my phone that I never uploaded and shared… and posting them now might be strange… I don’t know. Have any of you bloggers out there been in this same situation…. you’ve taken a mini-blog vacation and now you want to get back into the blogging world but you feel apprehensive… perhaps I am just over thinking it….
SUMMER BUCKET LIST:
-Have a baby (wish I could flash forward the labor and delivery part!)
– Take some mini, local vacations. Being in Southern California, there are a lot of places to go and visit for a couple of days or so that aren’t too far away.  I just really want to swim, enjoy a margarita, sleep in, eat some good food and relax….
-Lose baby weight: I am one of those pregnant ladies that you see at the gym working out at 8 months… I do elicit some interesting looks when I walk in the doors with a HUGE belly ready to work out. I told my husband to be ready for be to be a WORK OUT FIEND once baby Eli is born and I am cleared to exercise.  I am determined to drop the weight I gained before my sister in laws wedding this November and I know I can do it!
Thanks for reading my BABY CENTRIC Currently…. I have baby brain.
34 weeks!

While the phrase, “Open schools” bothers me be While the phrase, “Open schools” bothers me because it minimizes the HUGE lengths that teachers have gone through this past year. Where we, in a split moment, closed our classrooms and said goodbye to our students not knowing how this was going to play out. No matter whether we are teaching virtually, hybrid or even in a social distanced format...school has never been closed. Teachers went from being called heroes 🦸‍♀️ a year ago to being strongly criticized and undervalued. I am so proud and inspired by all of my teacher friends who have had to reinvent the wheel this year. I am so relieved that this is the first step back to the classroom setting where the students will continue to learn, flourish and be like “the good ole days”. Dose one done ✅. One step closer to being back in the classroom, IRL!
Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Va Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Valentine’s to my students. I am writing different figurative language notes on each postcard. Then we are going to share them on GoogleMeets during our morning meeting and vote which figurative language is on each student’s post card! You can take the teacher out of the classroom but they will still find ways to engage; no matter the distance! This year I have to mail these to my students ((because of distance learning)) but who doesn’t love some good ole snail mail 🐌 💌.
This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not th This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not the point...

I love being a teacher. I am aways challenged and get to be creative (especially these past 11 months). I feel at home at my school, and I’ve missed it so much since working at home. My district is in a zip code that is highly impacted with COVID-19, and we have felt the effects tremendously. Everyday, I am amazed by how resilient my students have been since their little world’s 🌍 changed on March 13th, 2020. It’s been one, wild ride, reinventing teaching, trying to stay motivated, trying to keep them engaged while feeling supported and seen. Yet, I’m hopeful this chapter soon will end. Amidst all of the unexpected and difficult things that have happened this last year... there’s still a lot of good out there. Look at this 💛 glimmer of hope and goodness. My uncle and Father in Law just made a class set of desks for my students (plus 30 more for other kids at my school). They used their stimulus money to give back to my school community. This desk will be their own special spot, and memory of the time we learned from home. I’m feeling really grateful and I can’t wait to see past the masks and imagine the smiles that my students will have when they pick these new family heirlooms up on Friday!
Sometimes it is all about the little goals you mak Sometimes it is all about the little goals you make for 2021. Ones like drinking more water and making sure to stand while distance teaching. I miss the days of walking around the classroom, running down the the stairs to grab my class after recess and hopping into a coworkers classroom at lunch.
Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a lon Cheers to the New Year. I felt like I needed a longer winter break but as soon as the school day started, it was game on. I was so excited to see my students online, ready to learn. I am constantly in awe of how resilient they are and how even though we have yet to be together in person, we have created such a supportive and close community. We giggle, we work, we do the best we can and feel good about it together.
