Turkey Factors {A Craftivity -plus- Activities}

November 9, 2014 By fancyfreein4th

I still cannot believe that it is in fact November! Perhaps it is because temperatures are still in the 90s here in Southern California.  I am loving having a long 4 day- Veterans Day- Weekend. I can catch up on sleep, laundry, have some quality time with the family AND finish some products that have been in limbo.  I am so excited to share my newest math product…
{keep reading… 2 of you will get this set for freezies}
This math Craftivity –PLUS- Activities is a wonderful set that is not only festive but a great way to reinforce factoring after a lesson, for center work or as both formative and summative assessment.

Included in this set:

6 posters- great for your math focus wall or interactive notebooks.
The posters include definitions, examples and math strategies to help find factors and reinforce that academic language that the students struggle with.

The Fabulous Turkey Craftivity
First the students choose a number from the composite number stack.
Then the students factor out their numbers- this will tell them how many turkey feathers they need for their Turkey Craftivity.  They show their work on the Rainbow Factor Think Sheet.

This think sheet will help them prove their understanding of the concept. Have you taught your students how to Rainbow Factor?  I wish that I was taught this way because it really helps to make sure that the students don’t leave any factors out.  The rainbows always start with 1 and itself (aka-the largest number/factor).  This creates the first arch.  Then, each arch underneath it progresses with the next largest factor.  The sequence helps so much and I think that this is a GREAT way to teach the kids how to factor so that they will be better prepared to attack fractions- GCF and LCM.
Once the students have factored out their number and figured out how many factor feathers they need- they are ready for the craftivity!

To help reinforce prime numbers, I have also included a Prime Number Hunt

By following the checklist on the right, the students will have a list of all of the prime and composite. numbers 1-102.
This is PERFECT for your student’s interactive notebook- a great reference tool and a way to see and use divisibility rules.
Last but not least there are 2 Factor Turkey worksheets that can be used as a formative or summative assessment.
This set has it all! It is engaging, teaches, reinforces and supports students at all levels.  This set is on sale now through Tuesday- so grab it now so your students can gobble it up this November!
AND NOW, to the first 2 pinners who pin one of the images from this blog post- I will email you this fantastic set for free! Just leave your pin link and email in the comments section and I will send it your way!
