What Does a Fox Say? Quotation and Punctuation Practice

August 10, 2014 By fancyfreein4th

A standard that my students struggle with every year is punctuating quotations.  “Where do I put the quote?”, “Does the comma go inside or outside of the quotation mark?”.  I have tried many different resources and activities, some that have worked and some that have not.  In an effort to make this the year that my students become extraordinary punctuators I created a new set that will make this tricky standard one that they can easily master.  AND what is the trickiest animal of them all? THE FOX of course!

This set is perfect for direct instruction, collaborative work, centers, assessment and individual work.

They will be humming the song “What Does a Fox Say?” as they complete the various activities! There are 24 task cards that will challenge the kids during center time to put their punctuating skills to the test!

The performance task for this mini-unit is a fun writing craftivity that asks the students to write with dialogue and tell a story of a fox tricking one of his forest friends.  It challenges the students to put their learning to action by requiring them use 5 different quotes with 5 different dialogue tags in their story.

I cannot wait to use these activities this year in my classroom! Grab this set on sale now at my Teachers pay Teachers store to help your kiddos be tricked no more by those sly quotation mark rules!
