July Currently and my Bloglovin Giveaway Winner!

July 1, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

Today I am linking up with Farley at Oh’ Boy 4th Gradefor July’s currently. Here goes…
Listening:
My (almost) 2 year old is obsessed with music and book.  This past week she has combined these 2 activities in her brother’s crib.  She will sit in this bed with Pandora Toddler station on for an hour and just read.  In fact, right now I am sitting on her toddler bed right now blogging while she is happy as a clam in the crib rockin’ out and reading.
Loving:
So I know that I am months behind on The Following craze but I was saving this show specifically for summer since 1) there aren’t many shows on in summer that are worth watching and 2) I will be land locked for a lot of the summer with my newborn, so TV is a fine companion for me for those early morning and late nights!  Anywho, I started watching The Following and am hooked! I love the suspense and drama as well as the unpredictable story line.  I will be sad when this season is over!
Thinking:
This week is going to be a BUSY week.
Monday: Penny and I are starting Toddler Class.  A friend of mine suggested it and tomorrow is our first day. Every Monday from 11-1 we will be going to a preschool type of program for parents and their children. Penny is beyond excited about this and so am I because I get to combine 2 of my most favorite things: Family & Teaching! Wish me luck maneuvering 2 kids out of the house on my own for the first time! Eek!
Monday-Wednesday: Catch up with old friends that are coming out from kind of far away to meet Baby Eli.
Thursday: Not only is it the 4th go July BUT it is also my 4 year anniversary! Yep, we got married on the 4th of July! We have fireworks every anniversary!
Since we have a 3 week old, our anniversary celebration will be low key but I look forward to celebrating our love, family and each other this week!
Friday: I am part of a Supper Club that meets 5 times a year and our last one of this season is on June 5th. I shared a little about the Supper Club here, basically 5 couples are in the group and each couple serves a very fancy, ornate, 5-8 course meal once a year for everyone else.  We dress to the nines and feast like kings! It is always a festive time and I am really looking forward to enjoying the food and not having heart burn this time around!
Saturday: Penny’s 2nd Birthday! We will celebrate our sweet daughter turning 2 (going on 12) on Saturday.  She is such a joy!
Late that day my husband and I will sneak off to a wedding of one of my dear college friends.
Sunday: Penny’s 2nd birthday party- an Ice Cream Social! I can’t wait to share pics of this cute and yummy affair next week!
Wanting:
This past week has been in the 90’s and our house is equally as hot. I want the air conditioner on ALL day but I don’t want an outrageous bill.  Oh the struggles of living in Southern California!
Needing:
I have about a million power points and products for next year half started. I have about a trillion ideas on Pinterest screaming my name and not a lot of motivation to do much right now. BUT it is now July, so I must make time to work! Anyone else feel this way?
Tips, tricks or hints:
Like it says, find some bloggers that you really enjoy and/or admire and email them, make a connection. I have had so many great interactions with fantastic educators thanks to the blogging world,  that I want to encourage any new bloggers or shy ones to put them yourself out there and ask questions, introduce yourself, share ideas with others.  This community is a great sounding board and a place where other people have the same passion to teach as you do so take advantage of it!
…….and CONGRATS to Joanne Koch Matuch for being my Bloglovin Giveaway Winner! Thanks to all of you who participated!

I love your advice about connecting with and getting to know the bloggers that you enjoy following 🙂 I've gotten so much inspiration and encouragement from reading other teachers' blogs. And I wouldn't feel too guilty about not having motivation to get work done…you have a newborn baby! Enjoy your busy week 🙂

WOW, I am impressed you are blogging and have a 2 yr old and 3 week old. I also am very jealous that she sits are reads, quietly. Guess that is the difference between boys and girls. My two boys run circles around the house and never sit and read. Good luck tomorrow morning. Remember if you "really" don't need it, don't take it. Think diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes!!!

Wow! You ARE busy!! How adorable is your little girl! And that is so awesome that she sits in the crib and reads and listens to music! Love!

    Happy early anniversary! Gorgeous picture!

I am very impressed with all that you are doing with a 3 week old!! It's during the first few weeks that time doesn't make any sense right after you have a baby. Well, actually time revolves around feeding so you live for 2-3 hours at a time! ;O) I think your outing will be great! Your daughter will love it!

I'm so glad that you found us through Currently! I can't agree more with your blogging tip! We can't wait to get to know you! :O)

Took a mental health day, and I don’t feel guilt Took a mental health day, and I don’t feel guilty about it at all. We heard last week that we are remaining in distance learning for the rest of the year and I’m coming to terms with having to switch grade levels (and classrooms) next year 😬. So, today I took a day to myself, got a hair cut, finished a book and I’m feeling good. I’ll let tomorrow wait and enjoy the rest of today. To all my fellow teachers out there, keep on keeping on and it’s ok to take a minute (or a day off) for yourself.
Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Va Spending this lazy Sunday afternoon writing 💕Valentine’s to my students. I am writing different figurative language notes on each postcard. Then we are going to share them on GoogleMeets during our morning meeting and vote which figurative language is on each student’s post card! You can take the teacher out of the classroom but they will still find ways to engage; no matter the distance! This year I have to mail these to my students ((because of distance learning)) but who doesn’t love some good ole snail mail 🐌 💌.
This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not th This isn’t the best picture, but that’s not the point...

I love being a teacher. I am aways challenged and get to be creative (especially these past 11 months). I feel at home at my school, and I’ve missed it so much since working at home. My district is in a zip code that is highly impacted with COVID-19, and we have felt the effects tremendously. Everyday, I am amazed by how resilient my students have been since their little world’s 🌍 changed on March 13th, 2020. It’s been one, wild ride, reinventing teaching, trying to stay motivated, trying to keep them engaged while feeling supported and seen. Yet, I’m hopeful this chapter soon will end. Amidst all of the unexpected and difficult things that have happened this last year... there’s still a lot of good out there. Look at this 💛 glimmer of hope and goodness. My uncle and Father in Law just made a class set of desks for my students (plus 30 more for other kids at my school). They used their stimulus money to give back to my school community. This desk will be their own special spot, and memory of the time we learned from home. I’m feeling really grateful and I can’t wait to see past the masks and imagine the smiles that my students will have when they pick these new family heirlooms up on Friday!
Sometimes it is all about the little goals you mak Sometimes it is all about the little goals you make for 2021. Ones like drinking more water and making sure to stand while distance teaching. I miss the days of walking around the classroom, running down the the stairs to grab my class after recess and hopping into a coworkers classroom at lunch.

I was so excited to see my students online, ready to learn. I am constantly in awe of how resilient they are and how even though we have yet to be together in person, we have created such a supportive and close community. We giggle, we work, we do the best we can and feel good about it together.
