Life Science Challenge Facts and Game

July 19, 2013 By fancyfreein4th

Are you looking for a new, fun and educational Science Center game? Well, recently I shared my Earth Science Challenge Facts and Game and I am excited to share it’s sister, Life Science Challenge Facts and Game.

As I mentioned last time, my school has a high regard for science and to ensure that each grade
level masters key Power Standards we give trimester Science Fact Quizzes
that I have modified and bundled together as a great center game.
This is the front side of the facts handout that I give to my class. They are encouraged to make flashcards to help them memorize the facts. There are a total of 50 Facts covering Kider to 5 grade science power standards.

The Game Board

This is the award that is given to students who score proficient on the final Earth Science Challenge test.
I give the Life Science Challenge 2nd trimester, after the Earth Science one and before the physical science test.  With
all 3 of these games/facts mastered, students have a better grasp on
key science concepts from various grade levels and are better prepared
to learn about the subjects in depth as well as do well on commonly
asked science questions on high stakes testing.  Our schools science
scores are one of the best in the district and I know that it is because
of our stellar teachers as well as implementing these science
challenges from Kinder to 5th grade.  I will be posting the final set in this series sometime soon. This is a
great activity to incorporate into your center time and it is not only
easy to introduce but so fun for your students!

There’s so much advice I would tell first year- There’s so much advice I would tell first year- teacher-me…. Especially after the last (almost) 2 years of teaching; barely afloat. This year is so hard. I have to stop regularly and tell my student teacher, “it’s never been like this”. But to my core, it’s always been- children first, relationships first, or nothing else matters. Though this year is tough in new ways, there’s still much hope and laughter each day. Thanks @eveleon26 for reminding me of my first, wonderful year of teaching- so I can bring that energy, excitement each day- no matter the circumstance. For all of my teacher friends out there, I see you- I know it’s hard- and I’m grateful for you. (P.S-it’s almost winter break, you got this!) #tiredteacher #cleareyesfullheartscantlose
