My Mr. Potato Head Whole Class Management

August 20, 2012 By fancyfreein4th

School starts on Wednesday and I am still not ready! I am busy juggling meetings, arranging and organizing my room and making copies…. I cannot wait until it is DONE! Here is a little Freebie for you….Let me explain:
My classroom management system is broke down into 3 tiers: Individual, Small Group and Whole Class. For the Individual behavior management, I use my amazing Classroom Checkbooks. You can go here to read all about them I have answered many questions on these since putting them in my TpT store.
In addition to my Classroom Checkbook System, I use table points for small group and in year’s past I have used Classroom Minutes. They earn class minutes or lose them based on the group’s behavior. This year I plan on using an idea I found on Pinterest from Something to Chirp About.  It is the Mr. Potato Head Whole Class Insentive.  When the class is caught being good, we add apart to Mr. Potato head.  When he is put together completely, we get to have a class activity or celebration. Things like an outdoor game, art project, dance party, pop corn party etc.  The class can also lose pieces of Mr. Potato Head for being off task, noisy etc.

Here is Mr. Potato Head in our class.

Here is a sign I made for it, you can download it free here.

HI… I love Mr.Potato Head and have small obsession! For years now I have had my classes build a Mr. Potato Head and the kids love it. As the years have gone on- and you know kids love to give you gifts when they know you like something… I now have 56 different Potato Heads! LOL…. we still build a class spud- but have others on display! Our class theme is "Be a Spud, not a dud!" … love it! Enjoy!

That is a fun idea! I have seen lots of sun accessories for Mr. Potato Head! I think I even saw a Disney version before, I'm just not sure if they still have it!

There’s so much advice I would tell first year- There’s so much advice I would tell first year- teacher-me…. Especially after the last (almost) 2 years of teaching; barely afloat. This year is so hard. I have to stop regularly and tell my student teacher, “it’s never been like this”. But to my core, it’s always been- children first, relationships first, or nothing else matters. Though this year is tough in new ways, there’s still much hope and laughter each day. Thanks @eveleon26 for reminding me of my first, wonderful year of teaching- so I can bring that energy, excitement each day- no matter the circumstance. For all of my teacher friends out there, I see you- I know it’s hard- and I’m grateful for you. (P.S-it’s almost winter break, you got this!) #tiredteacher #cleareyesfullheartscantlose
